OATI Cybersecurity Leadership Complements Presidential Policy Directive – United States Cyber Incident Coordination

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) proudly maintained strategic relationships for cyber incident response coordination prior to issuance of Presidential Policy Directive.

Minneapolis, MN: September 19, 2016 –
OATI is proud to support any efforts toward enhancing the nation’s cybersecurity. In July 2016, the White House issued a Presidential Policy Directive on cyber incident strategy (PPD-41) which coordinates a joint approach by individuals, private and public businesses, and the government to address high-risk cyber incidents. PPD-41 specifically designates the FBI as a lead agency for threat response activities. Ahead of PPD-41, OATI Security and Compliance Counsel, Jerrod Montoya, has held a board level position in InfraGard Minnesota Members Alliance (InfraGard) and currently serves as the chapter President. OATI maintains strong relationship with the FBI through its leadership in InfraGard.

Beyond InfraGard, OATI remains committed to other national level cybersecurity initiatives, including those governing the Bulk Electric System (BES). OATI products are developed and deployed with stringent standards, including North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems, North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) Wholesale Electric Quadrant Public Key Infrastructure Standards, and more. Proactive relationships prepare OATI for response; adherence to these standards demonstrates commitment as an organization to furthering national cybersecurity policy at an operational level.

Another way OATI supports federal policy initiatives, such as PPD-41, is through general cybersecurity thought leadership. On September 06, 2016, Montoya spoke about cybersecurity in a panel titled “A New Cybersecurity Architecture from Bulk Power to Distribution Grid Endpoints” at the 2016 IEEE ISGT Conference. PPD-41 recognizes the enhanced risk associated with advancements in technology and other innovations. OATI advancements in smart grid technology and thoughts in that space are designed to help mitigate risk.

“As a leader in providing energy related solutions in an ever evolving space, OATI is at the forefront of many new challenges,” said Montoya. “OATI is proud to offer its expertise in ensuring cybersecurity is considered a priority in developing the next generation grid.”
