Nationally-Renowned Electric Utility Relies on OATI for Demand Response Management System

American Electric Power Service Corporation (AEP) has implemented OATI webDistribute to enhance their Demand Response (DR) capabilities.

Minneapolis, MN: June 21, 2016 – OATI has placed its suite of DR technology into production at AEP to help the utility better manage its Commercial and Industrial (C&I) loads in PJM’s Emergency DR Market. The OATI webDistribute platform has replaced AEP’s in-house Customer Communication System (CCS) to initiate, track, and report on a variety of DR activities, including participation in PJM DR programs during periods of high power prices or when the reliability of the grid is threatened. OATI webDistribute is also providing a number of other DR programs, including Discretionary Buy-through, Advanced Time of Day (ATOD), and Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) programs.

In addition to the core OATI webDistribute DRMS platform, AEP’s configuration includes the OATI webSmartView web-based customer portal, which gives AEP’s customers the ability to view the current status of DR events, receive notification via email and/or text message of upcoming load curtailment events, status of events, and end of events. Both systems are continuously updated to stay current with ever-changing PJM program requirements, which are challenging to implement and take significant internal resources to manage.

OATI webDistribute seamlessly and securely integrates with a utility’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Meter Data Management (MDM), and legacy systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Customer Information Systems (CIS), and Geographic Information System (GIS). OATI webDistribute provides utilities the flexibility to create various types of DR programs and better manage peak loads and economic performance.

“OATI is excited to be working with AEP to make this project a success,” said Sasan Mokhtari, President and CEO of OATI. “We understand the importance of DR programs to AEP’s operational goals and are excited to be a part of their future.”
