PowerSouth Selects OATI for Next Generation Demand Management System

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) will provide PowerSouth Energy Cooperative with a centralized load control solution for enhanced coordination with their Member Cooperatives.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: July 08, 2014 — OATI has signed a contract with PowerSouth Energy Cooperative (PowerSouth), a Generation and Transmission (G&T) provider serving 20 distribution members, to implement a comprehensive solution to streamline their Demand Response (DR) operations.

Utilizing OATI webDistribute, PowerSouth will be able to accurately forecast available DR, centrally dispatch, and measure and verify DR events for peak shaving programs with their 10 participating members. OATI webDistribute maximizes member independence by integrating with each member’s different Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems and Customer Information Systems. This integration ensures that members are not forced to adopt a single, required system or lose their freedom of choice.

“The OATI webDistribute platform allows PowerSouth to operate demand response programs in a centralized manner through the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) networks deployed at our member distribution systems,” said Leigh Grantham, Vice President of Member Services and Communications of PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. “PowerSouth’s previous software solution employed technology utilizing one-way communication with no way of verifying actual load reductions. A major benefit of deploying the OATI webDistribute platform is we will now have measurement and verification for our demand response programs.”

OATI webDistribute will provide PowerSouth with a streamlined Dispatch process that automates user notifications and communications, eliminates many of the manual data integration and operational tasks typically required in dispatch, and can flexibly target DR programs to achieve strategic economic and reliability benefits.

“As a G&T company, PowerSouth is in the position to harmonize DR events to provide the most benefit to all of their members.” said Sasan Mokhtari, Ph.D., President and CEO of OATI. “OATI is pleased to extend our relationship with PowerSouth, providing them additional value with the latest in Smart Grid technology. We look forward to continued success together as we move the energy industry forward.”
