OATI solutions provide complete interactions for new CAISO Energy Imbalance Market (EIM)

Energy market solution leader Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) announces comprehensive system to streamline operations for Balancing Authorities (BAs) and generation providers participating in the new EIM.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: November 06, 2014 — The CAISO Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) extends the ISO Real-Time market to other western balancing authorities (BAs). Filings were made at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) to bring NV Energy and its customers into the EIM starting in October 2015 with NV Energy utilizing OATI’s webEIM solution.

The new OATI webEIM provides benefits to both EIM Entities and Participating Resources. The solution brings ease of data entry, management, and monitoring to participants in the expanding EIM with precise supply and demand tracking through 5-minute energy dispatch.

EIM Entities choose to participate in the EIM to mitigate the reliability impacts of increasing variable energy resources and stabilize energy costs when demand exceeds supply within region. Participating Generation Resources within an EIM Entity’s territory can choose to participate in the Market if they believe they can gain economic benefit from the additional sales opportunities. For both groups, the easy-to-use OATI webEIM streamlines and automates most daily interactions.

OATI webEIM provides all of the EIM and CAISO data interfaces, workflow automation processing, and reporting that an EIM Entity or Participating Resource needs to participate in the CAISO EIM Real-Time market. The solution also provides integrated shadow settlement capabilities so market participants can easily verify the economic value of their EIM interactions.

“We are very excited about the release of this solution. The versatile and complex capabilities it brings are unmatched by any competing product,” said Sasan Mokharti Ph.D., President and CEO of OATI. “Our new Market Solution is another example of why OATI is the leader in energy software solutions.”
