OATI Responds to Increasing Cyber Security Standards

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) enables enhanced mobile security features to ensure continued safety of the grid.

Minneapolis, MN: December 20, 2012 – Cyber security and the safety of the grid are significant parts of the conversation for many businesses and industries today, including the North American energy industry.

These concerns apply to the use of mobile devices and applications. A recent survey of the industry presented security as the dominant factor in the decision to use any mobile application.

As a market leader and pioneering Software-as-a-Service provider, OATI knew it was critical to protect industry data, including what is accessed by mobile devices. OATI webMobile is an example of OATI’s continued emphasis on cyber security standards in the industry, requiring a four-factor authentication process to access information. By contrast, most banking institutions only require two factors: a username and password.

“OATI is committed to the highest standards of cyber security,” said Dr. Sasan Mokhtari, President and CEO of OATI. “As a result, we built OATI webMobile with the most stringent guidelines to maintain the safety of the grid.”

Data can be accessed from iOS and Android smart phones and tablet devices. OATI webMobile also makes security easy for the user by installing webCARES digital certificates “behind the scenes” and requiring very little user input.

“OATI webMobile allows users the flexibility and convenience to obtain fundamental time-sensitive information in the palm of their hands. With security in mind, OATI developed a seamless process to allow users to install their OATI webCARES Digital Certificate on mobile devices. Once the webCARES digital certificate is installed, all interactions from the app are fully encrypted,” said Vuthy Phan, Senior Manager webMobile Applications for OATI.
