OATI Now an Approved NAESB Independent Authorized Certification Authority

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) named an approved NAESB Independent Authorized Certification Authority (ACA), confirming the robust unparalleled security of OATI webCARES Digital Certificates and helping to ensure the safety of the grid.

Minneapolis, MN: March 05, 2013 – OATI is now an approved NAESB Independent Authorized Certificate Authority, as OATI webCARES Digital Certificates have met the requirements set forth in the NAESB WEQ-012 PKI Business Practice Standards and accompanying Accreditation Specification (“WEQ-012 PKI Standards”). The WEQ-012 PKI Standards, developed by the NAESB PKI Sub-Committee, define requirements and standards for Certificate Authorities that provide services to the North American energy industry.

Following a thorough examination, a third party independent auditing firm confirmed that OATI webCARES complies with the WEQ-012 PKI Standards. This evidences the security and reliability of the OATI webCARES Digital Certificates and underlying webCARES controls, practices and procedures. As an ACA, OATI is qualified to provide PKI services to OATI webRegistry (the replacement to the TSIN registry). OATI is also prepared to provide PKI services to other industry applications which are expected to require implementation of ACA digital certificates in the near future.

ACA certification follows the successful completion in early 2013 of a WebTrust audit based on principles managed jointly by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). The WebTrust audit proves OATI complies fully with the security and control practices applicable to all Certificate Authorities. WebTrust certification allows OATI to display the WebTrust Seal of assurance for Certificate Authorities, which symbolizes an authority combines high standards of conformity through business-best practices and controls. The WebTrust seal, which links to the publicly-available audit report, can be found at www.oati.com.
