OATI Leverages OpenADR to Achieve Smart Grid Success

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) adopts OpenADR standard to simplify Demand Response and provide more cost-effective methods to meet energy industry needs.

Minneapolis, MN: December 03, 2013 – One of the primary objectives of OATI in the smart grid paradigm is to promote inter-operability between a wide variety of disparate vendor, legacy, and third-party systems and applications to reduce delivery costs, improve reliability, and optimize energy usage for utilities.

From the outset, OATI recognized that one of the key requirements for successfully tying together multiple systems of varying vintages and proprietary vendor APIs is adherence to proper communication and message payload standards and protocols. OATI was an early-stage member of the OpenADR Alliance and participated in developing the OpenADR 2.0 standards, so adopting the standard was a natural fit.

The OpenADR 2.0 standard provides the functionality and flexibility to support the interface between systems using web services, allowing multiple entities to interact. This will greatly facilitate the integration and rollout of systems to allow end-to-end integration of demand side resources and facilitate their participation in addressing distribution grid reliability issues, as well as their participation in wholesale electricity operations and markets.

“OATI will continue to evaluate the technical, operational, and business model feasibility of implementing a variety of advanced technical solutions through the OpenADR standard,” said Farrokh Albuyeh, Ph.D., Vice President of Smart Grid Projects at OATI. “We are committed to incorporating future versions of the OpenADR specifications into our project development.”

OATI provides innovative software solutions that simplify, streamline, and empower the operational tasks required in today’s energy commerce and Smart Grid.
