OATI Announces Tools for a Bilateral Energy Imbalance Market

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI), in response to emerging Energy Imbalance Markets, has enhanced its software to address operational challenges.

Minneapolis, MN: October 11, 2013 – OATI is pleased to announce functional expansions of its transmission scheduling solutions to facilitate Energy Imbalance Markets (EIM) as well as intra-hour scheduling. These expansions include multiple solutions and notably to OATI’s webExchange, (I-TAP), to facilitate clearing of sub-hourly bilateral bids and offers.  These additions  were described at the 2013 OATI Energy & Customer Conference this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Several flavors of EIM are emerging in the industry to address the operational challenges associated with high penetration of variable generation mandated by Renewable Portfolio Standards,” said Farrokh Rahimi, Vice President of Market Design and Consulting at OATI. “The EIM constructs proposed thus far are based on centralized dispatch and depend on an EIM Operator. While OATI’s existing transmission scheduling products can supplement such centralized EIM structures, the new enhancements to OATI’s webExchange and other related solutions can enable EIM operation based on bilateral transactions.”

OATI provides innovative software solutions that simplify, streamline, and empower the operational tasks required in today’s energy commerce and Smart Grid. With more than 1,200 customers in North America, OATI successfully deploys large, complicated, and diverse mission-critical applications committed to industry standards and stringent NERC CIP guidelines.
