CAISO Takes Control of Market Scheduling
As the California Independent System Operator Corporation (CAISO) was expanding the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) into the West, a need was identified to upgrade its existing market scheduling system. The new drivers included CAISO’s capabilities to auto-tag at 15-minute increments, which is essential for operations and EIM market functionalities.
With OATI webTrans, CAISO is able to:
- Generate schedules from tags for quick and easy tracking
- Produce Net Schedule Interchange (NSI) values for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) systems
- Absorb new EIM entities without requiring major coding or additional cost
“The ISO required its potential vendors to have a solid understanding of tagging and scheduling,” said Hani Alarian, CAISO Director of Power Systems Technology, Operations. “We placed a high emphasis on system availability and reliability in choosing a platform.”
