Development Manager

Job responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for managing the maintenance and support of customer production systems; assist with the application and maintenance of the client/OATI product application Production Environment;
  • Work closely with senior developers and project director, and provide valuable inputs to formulate business rules and developing practices for a major web application; work with customer on the functional requirements; write a technical design document describing the each functional scope; design the solution using various components of technologies; follow the software development life cycle using agile methodology, implementation plan, build artifacts and key performance metrics
  • Directly interface with customers and OATI Product Owners during testing and variance correction phases; perform in depth analysis of server performance issue and provide result to development; work with online product and project teams to implement online content in the Production Environment; review customizations and configurations for OATI software application environments to allow the integration of client/server applications; test layout to ensure the system is meeting client/OATI product needs;
  • Assist in reviewing project specifications and apply timely project releases in the Production Environment; maintain internal systems like QA used for releases; work from specifications drawn up by software developers; investigate errors by assisting software developers by analyzing user needs; assist others with real time experiences and debugging skills; support Sr. Project Manager on project activities; direct customer interaction on integration projects activities; document the project specific items as part of the integration;
  • Follow upgrade standards for upgrading the systems; assist on setting up demo systems for potential customers; participate in emergency project requests to resolve customer issues; analyze production performance issues and work with other departments and provide solutions; help resolve performance issues; interact directly with a customer to provide business solutions. Participate in the department’s meeting; share new ideas to help improve department’s processes and procedures;
  • Will design and develop software programs/applications using the following programing languages, such as JAVA, SQL, PL/SQL, C#, Hadoop, Postgress, Linux, Object Oriented Design, Java Script, HTML, Dynamic HTML, and ASP.NET to perform duties; and interface with System architect, network team and application team to address issues with OATI applications and customer application interfacing issues.
  • Participate in analysis and evaluation of new technology items to fit the requirement of internal process and needs. Take and lead the effort on high and critical customer issue investigation and assessment to provide a relevant report to management.     

This job will be done from OATI’s Bloomington, MN office or a home office in the Mpls/St. Paul metro area.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in computer science, information assurance, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related technology field.
  • Three years’ experience in software development, as a Development Manager, Software Developer, Technical Specialist, or closely related.
  • Three years’ experience in software testing.
  • Three years’ experience in C#, Hadoop, Postgress and Linux.
  • Three years’ experience in integration/server applications.
  • Two years’ experience in JAVA, SQL, PL/SQL, Object Oriented Design, Java Script, HTML, Dynamic HTML, and ASP.NET.
  • All experience can be gained concurrently.

IT Support Technician

OATI is currently recruiting for IT Support Technicians for its Bloomington, MN location. The successful candidates will be self-motivated, quick learners, and demonstrate a passion and commitment to quality support of staff and customers. Microgrid Controls Engineer

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI), an innovative Minnesota-based technology company, is seeking a Microgrid Controls Engineer to work in the design, programming, and deployment/testing of microgrid systems. OATI’s Microgrid group is growing fast, and looking to add additional qualified staff to the team.
 
Microgrids are an exciting part of the new smart grid. They are electrical systems with the ability to generate their own power, disconnect and reconnect with the grid, and perform services to aid the greater power grid when they are grid-tied.  These systems provide benefits such as greener power supply, resilient power through catastrophic events, and financial benefits to the system owners.

This position will involve the following tasks/responsibilities:

  • Working with OATI software teams to develop, deploy, and test microgrid control platforms.
  • Configuring and testing OATI’s software-based microgrid control platform.
  • Programming SEL RTACs to perform ancillary functions, along-side OATI’s software based microgrid control platform.
  • Aiding customers in troubleshooting SEL relays, meters, recloser controllers, etc.
  • Designing control networks and infrastructure to perform communications at microgrid sites.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (Technology), or Computer Science  - OR equivalent experience
  • Experience with automation technology
  • Experience programming SEL RTAC or other IEC 61131-3 compliant automation controllers/PLCs
  • Valid US driver’s license

Prior experience with the following technology is a plus but not required

OATI IT Network team is growing and we’re looking for qualified candidates to fill multiple positions. OATI Network Administrators work with other members of the IT Department to support all aspects of the Network Infrastructure. A successful candidate will have experience working with network infrastructure devices and protocols, and a proven ability to deploy and maintain solutions supporting high-availability network infrastructures. Candidates must be highly motivated and will be required to respond to and provide resolutions to problems on a timely basis. This position involves the planning, configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting of a variety of network systems.

Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) are actively seeking solutions helping them to effectively incorporate and optimize Distributed Energy Resources (DER) (e.g. solar PVs, energy storage batteries, customer-owned generators, etc.), and Demand Response (DR) asset (e.g. smart thermostats, irrigation pumps, etc.) strategies into their grid operations for cost savings, greater grid resiliency and carbon emissions reductions. This will further be spurred as the national outlook calls for a $400 billion investment over ten years, as one part of a broad mobilization of public investment, in clean energy and innovation.
 
OATI is seeking highly motivated sales hunters and results-orientated individuals responsible for generating revenue for OATI’s industry-leading Grid Modernization solutions that includes a high field-proven and comprehensive DR/DER management platform and other related solutions. OATI’s Energy only Private Cloud securely hosts these solutions for utilities unburdening utility staff from expensive hardware and software maintenance and upgrade processes.
 
Successful candidates will possess an aggressive and strategic prospecting skill set and a consultative approach to sales. Successful candidates will have a passion for technology and either will be or will become a subject matter expert on OATI’s portfolio. This position is responsible for developing an annual territory sales plan and identifying specific actions to achieve assigned targets/goals and quotas. Performance will be measured by new bookings, recognized revenue, sales pipeline growth, and the ability to attain other sales objectives. Key responsibilities include: prospecting, building a sales pipeline, moving opportunities through the sales cycle; proposing, presenting, discussing solutions, and closing business. Other responsibilities include: market research, sales strategy development, tradeshow support, and proposal writing, and sales reporting. Collaboration with technical staff, other colleagues, and supporting the overall team effort within the sales organization is expected.
 
This position requires extensive customer outreach and travel. Experience in electric utility industry operations, DERs, demand management, smart thermostat solutions, and or related fields are highly preferred. Experience working with and knowledge of IOUs are highly preferred as well. Preference is for a Minneapolis-based position but candidates could be based within a designated regional territory upon further discussions. This position has high growth potential.

 
Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related discipline
  • Experience and/or knowledge with AMI/AMR and related technology
  • Experience and/or knowledge with load control, demand management, DERs, smart thermostat programs and technology

Transmission Planning Engineer

TranServ International, Inc. (TranServ), which is an OATI sister company, provides specialized transmission planning and operational services to electric transmission system operators. Located in Bloomington, MN, its mission is to provide independent and innovative transmission management services to the electrical industry.
 
TranServ is seeking experienced power systems electrical engineers for Transmission Planning Engineer openings. The Transmission Planning Engineer provides knowledge, abilities, and skills on how to plan, develop, and coordinate electrical transmission system expansion planning projects including renewable and Smart Grid energy projects. The Transmission Planning Engineer will also: provide engineering support for daily operations, manage compliance with tariff requirements, and is responsible for maintaining and managing transmission system models for power flow, transient stability, and short circuit analysis. The Transmission Planning Engineer will also perform or manage System Impact and Generator Interconnection studies and will participate in several related activities.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education or experience performing transmission planning studies in compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC requirements and industry reliability standards)
  • Demonstrated experience working with PSS/E, TARA, PSCAD, or ASPEN programs, or comparable programs
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communications

OATI IT Network team is growing and we’re looking for qualified candidates to fill the Sr. Network Administrator position. OATI Network Administrators work with other members of the IT Department to support all aspects of the Network Infrastructure. A successful candidate will have experience working with network infrastructure devices and protocols, and a proven ability to deploy and maintain solutions supporting high-availability network infrastructures.
