We were the first company to provide large-scale software-as-a-service to the energy industry, and we pioneered the bulk power and DERMS markets. Today, we continue to push the energy frontier with cloud-based grid solutions and energy-native generative AI. Without compromising on security—for 30+ years, our private data centers have safeguarded the energy industry’s data.

OATI was founded in 1995 by world-renowned power systems engineer Dr. Sasan Mokhtari, PhD. Privately owned for more than 30 years, OATI is an engineering-first organization that prides itself on leading the industry’s most robust research and development team, free from the pressure of venture capitalists and institutional investors.

Timeline Graphic
1995-2000
OATI launches and deploys solutions for trading and reliability utilities throughout North America, providing the energy industry’s first large-scale Software-as-a-Service solution.
2000-2005
We expanded our solutions to meet numerous regulatory requirements for every North American reliability entity and deployed trading and market solutions for all RTOs covering all commodities.
2005-2010
We were recognized as a leading technology provider for utilities and are credited with deploying the industry’s first distributed energy resource management system (DERMS), defining a generation of grid modernization.
2010-2015
Our product suite expanded in breadth and functionality to meet the needs of the energy transition, including advanced tools for forecasting, outage management, virtual power plants, and voltage regulation.
2015-2020
In recognition of the power grid’s IT/OT convergence, we aligned and connected our tools to leverage distributed energy resources in utility operations, bulk power trading and reliability.
2020-2025
Long before AI entered the mainstream consciousness, our teams were hard at work building Genie™—which would become the energy industry’s first generative and agentic AI platform and the first AI application in real-time power grid operations.
