Breakout Session: G&T and member cooperatives DERMS energy ecosystem project case study

March 9, 2026 | 11:15-12:15 AM |

This session will explore key challenges and initiatives driving the implementation of a new DERMS platform with a multi-tenant architecture to be utilized by both Tri-State and its 40 distribution members. Tri-State will discuss the various Demand Response (DR) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) programs it has implemented to date and the benefits & drivers of those programs. Attendees will gain insights from the program, including challenges and key results and learnings. This presentation offers a first-hand perspective on the opportunities and complexities of implementing various DR/DER programs at a G&T in collaboration with its distribution members.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Find and monetize DR/DERS and create a vertically coordinated system
  • Optimization of the Cooperative Energy Ecosystem in coordination with G&T membership
  • Build a bridge from the demand side

Speakers:

Matt Fitzgibbon, VP Planning and Analytics, Tri-State Generation and Transmission
John Kish, Senior Sales Engineer, OATI
Jennifer Prokop, Demand Response Manager, Tri-State Generation and Transmission

TVA’s DERMS journey

In TVA’s service region, a new wave of growth in the C&I sector has disrupted the traditionally flat load growth, which could now be a relic of the past. As TVA’s portfolio continued to grow, the utility needed more scalability and automation in its solutions, which led to TVA selecting OATI in 2019 for its transition to DERMS.

TVA transitioned from an in-house DRMS to OATI DERMS to unlock the dynamic automation required by one of the nation’s largest demand response portfolios. With massive C&I growth in the region, TVA is collaborating with giants like Google and Amazon to optimize demand and drive innovation.
