CAISO Takes Control of Market Scheduling
As the California Independent System Operator Corporation (CAISO) was expanding the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) into the West, a need was identified to upgrade its existing market scheduling system. The new drivers included CAISO’s capabilities to auto-tag at 15-minute increments, which is essential for operations and EIM market functionalities.
With OATI webTrans, CAISO is able to:
Generate schedules from tags for quick and easy tracking
Produce Net Schedule Interchange (NSI) values for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) systems
Absorb new EIM entities without requiring major coding or additional cost
"The ISO required its potential vendors to have a solid understanding of tagging and scheduling," said Hani Alarian, CAISO Director of Power Systems Technology, Operations. "We placed a high emphasis on system availability and reliability in choosing a platform."
