Viking 2 Landing

Sep 03, 2022
On September 3, 1976, the Viking 2 spacecraft touched down on Mars, just weeks after its twin, Viking 1, became the first successful Mars lander in history. The orbiter took 16,000 images of the red planet during its 706 orbits, and the landers are credited with providing the basis for our understanding of Mars in the 20th and early 21st centuries.
