Mark Spitz Wins Gold

On this day in history, swimmer Mark Spitz made a splash at the 1972 Munich Olympics when he became the first Olympian to win 7 medals in a single Games, a record which was not broken until 2008 by Michael Phelps. “Mark the Shark” set world records in all seven events and is one of only five Olympians to win nine or more gold medals.
